You have a rare opportunity in comedy to celebrate yourself. You can write about your past self, the immediate self as well as the future self that is always on the way somewhere. You can project yourself into any time. You can play 'what if'. You can perform your thoughts and feelings on any subject; high school, college, previous marriages, jobs,... you can face down bullies, authority figures and always come out the victor.
It is an awesome art to be a comedian/comedy writer.
THE single major requirement however is you must get laughs as you recant. Moreso the audience must feel what you're saying and get something out of it for themselves. Can you do that? Share yourself to get something for yourself yet give something unselfishly to others? That's a lot, that's a relationship.
The audience lets you know the relationship is working with laughs, applause and excited attention. That's what they're there to give.
So no question you have to give more, but that's ok because you got it, that's the way of an artist. ;)
