HOW DO YOU STAND OUT IN STAND UP?

A good study might be to look at many of the comics that have stood out, now and in the ages. What do they have? Try to imagine what they did to get what they have. Was it all natural? Most likely not. They experimented and looked deep inside and began to learn to trust themselves and played to their strengths. They discovered that rare characteristic and amplified it.

I've always felt that each true comedy talent has that one thing that will make him/her stand out. I say 'true' comic because there are many that just don't have it, not everybody will have that elusive substance called talent, we have many posers and imitators these days and people just trying it out for fun, no problem there. I'm all about people getting a fair shot at it. However that can make it more troubling than ever to trust your instincts and do what you know to be right for you. People want to fit in and so you may feel uncomfortable trying something new, something that feels right. All I can offer is, don't be.
~
If I can be self serving here, I might add this is where a performing coach may assist you. There is NOTHING like an experienced eye focused on you during performances and workouts. NOTHING. Someone that just may see something you're missing.
~
For the most part just keep the faith that you will find it, but remember to do so you have to know to look.
~
After this process and a lot of stage work you need to be in places where you may get noticed. Bigger cities, festivals, etc. Show business is all about forward motion, make sure you are creating that for yourself, you have that right as an artist. If you feel you're ready almost all agents are approachable, as are most networks.
~
Before you approach bookers/agents you need to have video and recommendations to back you up. Network to gain that page of impressive remarks about you and definitely get that kick ass undeniable video that captures that unique, special, funny you. Make it a vid that compels bookers to reach for their phone and call you!
~
If you're for real you will never give up. Giving up isn't an option if you are committed to stand out stand up and making it. Persist your way to success.
