STAND UP COMEDY WITHIN REASON

Posted on March 4, 2015 at 10:56 AM Comments comments (3)

You gotta have heart no doubt, but in stand up comedy, you gotta have reason as well.

The audience wants and deserves a reason you're telling them whatever it is you're telling them. But take heed, that's a good thing, because that's how you slip in your jokes. A reason is an establishing set up. Sometimes many twists can come from a single reason, sometimes an entire act.

You don't just walk on stage and start out with a joke from out of no where. You must appear at least that you're making conversation, even if it's loud and over the top or extremely understated to gain their attention or to set character. You begin to establish a reason for the audience to listen to you. Feel me? Reason equals the path.

The better the reason, the more clearer the reason, the funnier the payoff. Sounds reasonable doesn't it?

Bam! See what I did there?

Reason your way to funny.
