BENEFITS OF STANDUP COMEDY IN THE REAL WORLD.

Let's say you don't want to be a stand up comedian. What in the world would you want to study something you'd never dream of pursuing a career in no matter how casual?

As a coach of stand ups for many years I have witnessed some powerful transformations in people that spend a little time taking a comedy class or two.

One benefit is, as you might have expected, those who study comedy become funnier and learn how to make themselves and their topics far more compelling! People learn how to tell a joke and give the punchline some attitude and life. Comedians know how to 'sell it'! Does this help in everyday life? You bet it does. The funnier salesperson can control a conversation, communicate like no other and often will present him or herself in a more favorable light to the customer. Trust me as a former salesperson I know how important it is to be likeable.

Chalk up comedy helping fight stress and adding to motivation as well.

Another benefit is people are often called upon in a career, especially an advancing one, to give a speech or lead a group and so required to perform public speaking of some sort. Those who study stand up comedy learn techniques that can help control an audience and make themselves more accessible and interesting...trademarks of every good leader.

Learning stand up comedy techniques teaches you the importance of capturing attention by having a good opening and how to close strong.
Did you even realize comedians think about stuff like that? Well they do.

Just like super salespeople comedians know secrets of being entertaining all the while focusing on the end result...getting a message across.
And don't even get me started about how stand up comedy secrets can help you increase memory through 'linking' and 'blocking' ...and of course put a charge into your self confidence, etc. All hugely important elements to today's business pro, police officer or teacher.

I might be just a tad slanted in favor of standup comedy but I believe you would serve yourself well seeking out a comedy class or workshop in your area and take the 5 or 6 week course. Get on stage in front of strangers and challenge yourself....it's fun and there is no better motivation, self improvement course around period.
